I haven’t mentioned it here yet, but I have the opportunity to attend Allume in 10 weeks in Greenville, South Carolina as I was already going to be in North Carolina that week for work. It’s a faith-based blogging conference for 400 women and I am starting to get excited!
One of the women from the God-sized Dream group started a fun link up about what your Allume roommates should know about you before going. Y’all, I am over the MOON about my two roommates who are both from the God-sized dream group I was a part of earlier this year. Mandy Mianecki is from the Great North (as I refer to anything above Oklahoma), homeschools four kids (can you just say, WOW!) and encourages women over at her blog, Hearts Undaunted. Christine Wright, who you guys have met before, is like my soul sister down in Florida. She turned 40 this year too and has four kids, one of whom is also three (boy, I’m going to be the girl in the room with the fewest number of kids this time around!), and inspires women over at her blog, Living Joel 2:25.
So here’s a few basic wacky facts for my darling roommates who hopefully won’t run after seeing they’ve signed up for this!
1. I can NOT stand to hear people brush their teeth. Even my kids. I grit my teeth and try to la-la-la my way through it. Please boot me out of the bathroom when the time comes for you to brush your teeth.
2. I love coffee. Good coffee. Not that crappy hotel room automatic coffee. Can we find some good coffee first thing? In fact, since you’re arriving before me, maybe you can scout out a spot for good coffee. Black. Three cups sometimes in the morning. Don’t judge – I don’t sleep much.
3. Apparently I talk in my sleep. Not all the time, but it happens. Been disrupting people with it since my prekindergarten nap mat days of hollering out Mickey Mouse. It’s not nearly as frequent, but on the upside, maybe you’ll learn some crazy fact about me. On the downside, that will happen at 3 am.
4. No one believes this, but I am an introvert. NO ONE believes this! I was painfully shy all the way through college and even though I’m comfortable (finally) speaking in public, I’m still an introvert and get nervous in rooms of people I don’t know. One person who gave me the Meyers Briggs test (I’m an INFP) described the introvert/extrovert difference as this – you can be in a room with an introvert and extrovert and not know the difference. The difference is the introvert is drained after spending a day around people and the extrovert is super-charged by it. That is exactly me. So I might be a little quiet at the end of the day. (Then again, I may talk to you til 2 in the morning because I am just SO excited to have a bloggy girls weekend!)
5. I love to laugh. Love it. My kids are hysterical. They crack me. I’m pretty funny too and I crack myself up. Seriously, I’ll sit here and just crack up at how funny I am sometimes. I’m a total goober. I will laugh with you til the crack of dawn. I will laugh so hard that I may wheeze or snort or, if you really get me going, pee a little in my pants. I can’t wait to laugh with you (and I’ll try to control by bladder – but I did have triplets).
Hey fellow Allumees, what’s something funny about you??? Can’t wait to meet you!
Okay number 2- I just died laughing. Hotel room coffee is not good at all. I can’t wait to meet you! Thanks for linking up!
Thanks for such a great topic Laura! I loved it – I loved reading yours and Mandy’s too! I hope everyone swaps such great stories before hand!
LOL! Love this because I have been thinking about my poor roomies and am also freaked that I might scream “Mickey Mouse” (or worse) out in the middle of the night too. I am so looking forward to Allume though. Excited!
Oh good Jenny – I’m glad we’re in the same boat, our roomies will have to swap stories the next morning after experiencing our night shouts!
ahhh..so funny!! Love the explanation between introvert/extrovert…I am with you on that one sister. I just had a week with a full house and while I love them all was so glad when they went away! 🙂
Oh Lani I know that feeling – how can I miss you if you won’t go away 🙂
Awesome! Well, friend, #1 nearly had me peeing in my pants. Good to know;) And if there is something that can get my non-morning self out of bed, it is coffee, so we are a great team there. I am definitely drained by large groups, but I am good with 2ish people, even after being with large groups:) I am INFJ. Lastly, I am so glad and relieved to know we will be laughing it up because I can be really serious, and some fun would be great for me! Loved this list.
Well #1 is all true as my roommate from Italy will tell you (she was an OBSESSIVE teeth brusher!). An INFJ – how fun! My “F” and “T” as well as my “P” and “J” were really close – the others not at all. Between Christine and me you won’t have a serious bone left in your body!
Gindi,
Thank you for explaining this distinction about introverts. People (my own kids included) insist that I’m joking, exaggerating, lying, etc. when I describe myself as an introvert. I can be outgoing and friendly (in fact I purpose to be this way because connection/welcoming others is part of my DNA), but it DEFINITELY drains me…and if I’m in an emotionally trying season, it’s even harder.
Between waves of nerves, (which I’m sure will increase in the next couple of months), I’m feeling quite excited about attending my first conference!

So excited to meet you Deb. And yes, boy I am WORN out after a day of welcoming 🙂
Love this… and I love to laugh too! Laughings my favorite… we could sit and laugh at how funny we each are all day long.
So looking forward to Allume!
Can’t wait to laugh with all you girls!
Tooth brushing.. really? Interesting. I gotta say, mouth sounds in general get me -you know, other than words. There will be coffee! It’s a conference for female bloggers. Coffee will abound. I think Logan may have even said 22/3 – 22 hours a day for the 3 days. Ah, and Mandy – she’s a great one! This is gonna be so much fun. Looking forward to meeting you there.
Oh yes, I’m an odd one Amy! And yes, SO much fun!
LOL! This is great! One funny thing about me is that I have a terrible sense of direction. Like I will get lost in the hotel until I see a map. It’s really embarrassing. I even get turned around in my own local mall. Needless to say, I’m a devoted map-reader. Can’t wait to meet you at Allume!
oh I have friends like that erin – stick with me, I’ve got a decent sense of direction 🙂
Super fun! I love your list and I am looking forward to meeting you in October. I’ll look for the girl who is laughing a lot. See you soon!
Thanks Debi – I’m so looking forward to meeting everyone too!
