The Dish on Career, Fashion, Faith, and Family

Brain Dump

July 11, 2013 by Gindi 7 Comments

I didn’t have anything planned for today so you’re getting my random commute musings:

1.  I’m thinking of writing an article for people starting blogs.  Sort of my blog journey.  A few tips right off the bat are not to use Go Daddy for your name but rather Name Cheap and I am in LOVE with Blue Host for hosting – there was a lovely man who sat with me for an hour at 10 pm when my blog went on the fritz because of a formatting error.

2.  Bray has agreed to throw me a 40th birthday party.  I’m delighted.  Is 40 too old to have a girly party invitation?

3.  I have my second sinus infection in six weeks.  The ENT wants to test me for allergies in 6 weeks.  I had them as a kid but never retested as an adult.  It’s not like I can do anything if I’m allergic to dust and trees.  Wondering if there’s really a solution since I’ve been on zyrtec for a year.

4.  I love to read.  But I have read so much non fiction lately.  Leadership stuff for my book and faith stuff and autobiographies.  You can NOT lose yourself in those books.  I just went to B&N yesterday and bought four random fiction books.  What are you reading that you love?  I don’t like sci-fi or anything with graphic violence or sex or language.  Otherwise I have an assortment including books from Ann Patchett to Jane Austen to Jonathan Franzen.

Would love to hear from you today as my mind is ALL over the map.  Oh, and I almost forgot, I heard this song on my way in this morning and thought it was such encouragement – if you are feeling a little “less than” today, remember that you are HIS:

    1. Do it! I bet there are tons of people out there with GREAT experiences/thoughts to share who just don’t know how to get started
    2. No way! 40 is not too old for anything, ESPECIALLY for being girly.
    3. Get tested. There are some meds out there that work way better than just zyrtec on its own and if your doc can get your “cocktail” right, you’ll feel like a new person
    4. No books to recommend I’m afraid. My genre of choice is murder mysteries/thrillers so very often do contain violence. Although I’m ashamed to say I haven’t read much lately. When I do have a few minutes to myself before bed I watch TV shows on my Tablet. I’m a bit of a CSI, Law & Order & The Mentalist junkie.

    LOVED that Jason Gray song!

Okay – so you are the FOURTH green light I’ve gotten on the totally chic invitations I fell in love with so I’m going to get them. So fun. And yes, I’m going to get tested in two weeks, I just wasn’t that optimistic, but sounds like maybe there are options so good. Summer tv is always so terrible (I have my four shows I watch during prime season) so I’m just really wanting to curl up with some read it til you can’t put it down fiction (started one last night that has TONS of promise!). Thanks Linda!

I love Syrie James. She does period novels about real life people (Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte). Her books leave you wondering what’s real and what’s fictional about their lives. They’re also romantic like Jane Austen’s books. Good clean reads!

    1. Great idea!
    2. No way is 40 too old! Do it!!
    3. There’s actually lots you can do. If you are dust mite allergic, there are bed and pillow covers you should use to limit your contact with the buggers (the bed is where we’re most exposed). And allergy shots work wonders for that and other allergens.
    4. No recommendations but I’m all ears too 🙂

Come on in. I have a reservation just for you. I know life is busy. I would love for us to step out for a relaxing lunch but schedules don't always allow. So let's pop open that salad or sandwich sitting in front of our computers, and we'll have lunch right here. A few minutes is all we need to connect to community.
