So I can’t believe it, but we’re nearly done with this “spring’s” study – I guess it was not technically spring, but just the spring semester! Last time we talked about how God calls us POWERFUL! Do you ever feel like the power doesn’t mean much in practice? Psssst, guess what? That power comes with winning. Winning not in the traditional piling up successes as the world’s yardstick measures, but a unique and sustainable victory. You, my friend, will be piling up some serious notches on a Heavenly measuring stick. If you are interested in seeing what true victory looks like, then look no further.
As I have written before, much of this study has focused on God’s names and claims for us in the context of balancing the inconsistent accolades of our careers with what God provides for us. But particularly in light of being conquerors, I think we have to again look at the big picture – how we are conquerors in the context of our life. Have you faced struggles? Have you gone through a particularly hard time and wondered where God was? Look at the way God provides for our, the warrior’s, passage through life’s contests. The provision occurs not by flight, but by battle; not by retreat, but by advance; not by shunning, but by facing the foe. I was reading about this the other day and an author said that God could have removed His people from the field, and conducted them to heaven without the hazard of a conflict. But that was not the path that He chose. Instead, His path to glory, is by the path of glory. You have to carve your success, your victory, through the battlefield. You will experience distress and suffering, but under the pressure, and in fact in the very heat of the battle, that is where you find that you ARE a conqueror. Remember, you can not become a conqueror if you never face a battlefield. I don’t know what your battlefield is today, but it has been placed there so you can emerge victorious.
You, when rooted in God’s power, are a conqueror. I am a conqueror. How do I know?
Romans 8:31, 37-39: What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I John 4:4: You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.
I Corinthians 15:57-58: But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
Deuteronomy 20:3-4: Today you are going into battle against your enemies. Do not be fainthearted or afraid; do not panic or be terrified by them. For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.
