The Dish on Career, Fashion, Faith, and Family

Fashion Fridays: Vegas Baby!

July 26, 2013 by Gindi 1 Comment

Okay, so I know that last week and this week I’m going beyond the typical work/career Fashion Fridays.  But I’ve been a little fried on work ideas and it’s summer, so I just opted to post a few lighter fashion ideas.  And since this is one I’ve been thinking about lately, that’s what is served up today.  I turn 40 in a little over a month.  My best friend, a Vegas aficionado, has arranged it so that she and two other of my dear girlfriends are taking me to Vegas for my birthday since I have never been!  I am so excited.  We will have two nights of dinner/drinks/shows and I would love to have a fun and funky dress for one of our nights out.  I have a few options in my closet, but sadly they are from my 2011 dress size which I’m going to need a little time to get back into.  I think you can go bolder and zanier in Vegas than you could at home but I cannot, nor do I want to, spend much money on a dress as we budget tighten to send the kids to private school.

I think any of the Vegas options I found also completely work for girl’s night out!  If you have a fun girls weekend in your future, here’s what I’ve found thus far (at the always spectacular Nordstrom’s which is at this moment having their bang up anniversary sale).

On the pricier side, I found a few dresses I really liked by Milly as well as Laundry, but sadly they were out of my budget.  Here’s some of the cool stuff Milly is doing – I think it’s the patterns that I’m drawn to:

Here are a few of the fun Laundry dresses – I love that mix of floral and geometric pattern on the first one but they only had small sizes (there’s a great deal if you wear a size 2):

I did find Taylor Dresses at Nordstrom’s for rock bottom prices. I didn’t see a one of them priced above $150 (and this red one was $84!), and they were fun and interesting and that black and white one I would totally wear here at home:

Here’s a few more that I was drawn to, many of them on sale (either through clearance or the Anniversary Sale):

I also note, upon second review, that a lot of these dresses really aren’t THAT far out of my comfort zone.  So what should I be looking for?  Should I be bothered by the fact that the top left girl looks 12?  Is a long dress that is see through on bottom SO dated?  Surely these skirts don’t all hit that short if you buy the right size?

So what do you wear to Vegas?  Which dress is a no-no?  Do you have a favorite designer you rely on for your night out outfits?  Let us in on your secrets!

Come on in. I have a reservation just for you. I know life is busy. I would love for us to step out for a relaxing lunch but schedules don't always allow. So let's pop open that salad or sandwich sitting in front of our computers, and we'll have lunch right here. A few minutes is all we need to connect to community.
