I’m incredibly thankful to have several more weeks of these Sisters Stories to share. I’m using the theme of Priscilla Shirer’s God is Able book as we look at each woman’s journey. God is Able takes apart each word in one of my life verses from Ephesians 3:
Now to Him who is able to do exceeding abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Amen.
Today, we look at “who is able to do.”
We looked at the NOW. We looked TO HIM.
Then what?
Who is Able. I love this part because this is the whole theme of the sisters stories. God. Is. Able. No matter what.
There are places in the Bible that call out WHAT He is able to do.
He is able to guard what has been entrusted to him (II Timothy 1); He is able to help those who have been tempted (Hebrews 2); He is able to deliver us (Daniel 3).
Here Paul says he is able to DO. We find out in the next few words that His Doing will be abundantly more than we could imagine!
Priscilla Shirer labels these five words TRUTH in her book. She shares how much she, and we, often desire things to stay the same even though we stand in the midst of change.
Our hearts can start to wonder if we can truly be assured of anything in life – anything besides change and loss and stress and more disappointment. Good news: We can. No matter how progressive and postmodern our culture becomes, and no matter how many technological advancements take place, there is still such a thing as unchanging, unflinching, unadulterated truth. No matter what country you live in, what city you’re from, what language you speak, or what you do for a living – real, solid truth maintains a constant balance at any elevation. Two plus two equals four. Everywhere….Paul intended to declare an absolute, unconditional, irrevocable truth in a world overrun with constant change and relativity: God, he said, “is able to do” it…..God=Is=Able. Any way you add it up.
So no matter where you are, no matter what is changing around you, there is a constant unchanging truth. God is Able. And He stands ready to help you in the middle of whatever it is. Wednesday, you’ll meet my friend Missy. Her story is one full of change. A story where she had no choice but to hang on to the truth that He Is Able.
Oh can’t wait to continue on this series and I so need to dive into this books as well!
Yes, I am just taking it in little morsels!
Will you please pray that I will believe and love the unshakeable truth of the gospel? Thank you.
Oh Kat, absolutely. I am praying. John 17:17 – God’s word is the truth.
I love your heart, friend…and I love that you are telling these stories. Can’t wait! 🙂
