I love classic.
A crisp white button down. A beige 3 inch leather heel. A black suit. Oversized pearls.
These say classic elegance to me.
So of course I fell in love with this. Curled hair. Perfect button down – crisp cotton or silk. High waisted black skirt. And you just know they have on STOCKINGS and heels. (Skipping stockings with this ensemble would be an error in judgment.)
And so, without further adieu, the picks to recreate The Classic.
1. The blouse.
I really like Antonio Melani’s stuff at Dillard’s – it’s about the only thing I’ll buy from there now but he has super classic lines. This white button down (and he has three styles) runs $89.
This classic cornflower blue and white stripe button down from Ann Taylor could be worn as shown – down to the striped accent skirt. It runs $79 but they always have coupons.
If you’ve got some money to burn, this is the blouse to buy. It comes in a number of colors but this soft taupe silk is absolutely gorgeous and timeless (Ann Taylor – $119).
2. The skirt.
The Limited has a great collection of high waisted and wide waistband pencil skirts in every neutral color imaginable and they’re running a sale on all of them right now so you can pick this one up for $40. (Do not buy one in knit – it kills the classic look!)
This classic high waisted skirt comes in black, gray and navy and is a steal at JC Penney for $28.
Finally, here’s a gorgeous Diane von Furstenberg black pencil skirt and the thick banding is at the back instead of the front which is a fun twist on the classic but it runs over $200 at Bloomingdale’s.
And do not forget the stockings and classic heels. A pair of oversized pearls would be perfect too – think Audrey Hepburn (or Michelle Obama). Mine are Ralph Lauren from Macy’s and look just like the ones pictured in the Steal this Look photo.
What’s your favorite “classic” piece in your closet? Any must-haves?
