I’ve not had much time to write the past week. Holiday travel and lots of family togetherness and multiple road trips, well you know…
I had a few posts brewing, all of which I promptly tossed for today. Seems as though the last few months of my life have been heavier than usual, so many of my posts have been heavier than usual.
But who wants a serious post on New Year’s Eve? (Cue the music and disco ball and confetti!)
This morning, little bit and I drove to the farm. I couldn’t bring myself to leave the house less than 24 hours after arriving back from Oklahoma and all the holiday décor really needed to come down. So she and I stayed around yesterday as the boys repacked their bags and headed out with big talk of duck hunts and fireworks.
On the ride over, as always, she shouted, “MOM – MUSIC!”
I love music. Adore music. All kinds of music. Jazz, pop, Texas, reggae, alternative, Christian, and even country these days. But more often than not, I listen to NPR on the way to work and get far less music in my life than I used to (my life used to have a constant soundtrack of one sort or the other).
So up the radio went and some random country pop tunes came on which little bit demanded we keep on and turn up.
Oh we danced. We car danced so much I’m sure everyone on the road thought we were total fools. The best thing to dance that much. We were bopping and bobbing and snapping and clapping and shrugging and grooving.
Mercy was it fun!
Unadulterated mindless car partying with my six year old.
Y’all, it’s New Year’s Eve.
I know the world is heavy and politics are loud and many of you have had a HARD year.
But let’s blow all that off for the day and do some car dancin’. Turn the radio up and pop some fireworks and toast to 24 hours of lightness and frivolity if you can.
As for me and my crew, we’ll be dancing on the back porch around a bon fire grateful for a fresh 2016!
Happy New Year’s Eve friends.
