I know today’s Fashion Friday is a little silly, but it is a reality which needs to be addressed in fashion: THE DEARTH OF POCKETS.
Ladies, why is there not more noise being made over this complete absence of pockets?
I realize, every now and again, we get them. But all too often, like today, you want to run downstairs to grab lunch and just slide your credit card in your pocket. When what do you find? NO pockets!
I realize that this is likely some mastermind idea by someone trying to make everything slimming, but a well-tailored pocket with a little space for your ID couldn’t be that hard to implement.
Have you seen these wedding dresses with the pockets in the big ball gown skirt now? I love them so much. We had no wedding dress pockets when I married. This is genius. I’m hoping it’s a trend that catches on.
What’s even worse than no pockets? The faux pocket! An otherwise adorable work blazer turns into an infernal frustration because you keep trying to slide a tissue into that little seam with no actual pocket guts!
So what’s a girl to do? Well you support those suppliers providing us with pockets!
Look at this fabulous scalloped POCKET dress from Banana Republic – that’s right, it even has pocket in its name because they realize how helpful these pockets are.
And they’re not stopping there, oh no. They’re throwing pockets everywhere, including this versatile pinstripe skirt (and showing that girl using the valuable pocket, smart marketing there Banana, smart marketing):
They’re not alone. Ann Taylor, who’s proclaiming blush as this season’s new neutral (I’m not sure I concur), has got some great blazers and trousers with very practical pockets! (See, even the model looks washed out in blush. This is my issue with this particular color…)
Classiques Entier at Nordstrom’s can be a good work staple brand and most of their work jackets/trousers (sometimes skirts) have pockets. They even threw one on this belted leather skirt (what say you about this skirt? it’s interesting to me but I’m wondering how you’d style it…):
And even though it’s not my go to spot these days, Talbot’s is always good to a girl for blazers with pockets. (I actually think pants and skirts with pockets are the far trickier item.)
And y’all, everyone is running big sales right now. Anywhere from 30-50% off if you need some wardrobe pocket freshening up. As for me, I’m using every bit of willpower not to pick up those awesome trouses from AT. Happy pocket-shopping!
I adore pockets. I have some lovely work dresses with pockets. I will send links.
I am a huge no on he leather skirt. I think it would be hideous on me and a complete no go at work. It already looks wrinkley and slimy shiney even in the pic!
