Summer Tips

July 13, 2016 by Gindi 1 Comment

Hey friends!  Am I the only person in America ready for the school year to start?  This absolute lack of schedule has me going bananas.  I’m a schedule girl.  As a result, I make an appearance here only every few days.

Is your brain mush this summer?  I’m giving all I have at work and have nothing left to write about (except walking into the men’s room, and no, you don’t get today’s insane story)!

So instead, here’s a few random summer tips/musings:

1. Having a summer party?  My friend Kristi told me the best way to serve watermelon.  I tried her methodology at this weekend’s pool party, and I will never again serve it any other way!

Cut your watermelon lengthwise across the middle.  Lay the flat part of the melon on your serving tray.  Cut five or so cuts from end to end horizontally.  Once you have made your horizontal cuts, make a bunch of cuts from top to bottom vertically.  Put in the refrigerator until the party.  When it’s party time, pull out your tray (ideally in your backyard) and put a little trash can near the melon.  watermelon-600x450

I had a bench with a big container of lemonade, the tray of watermelon, a stack of cups, and then a nearby cooler of water bottles and popsicles.  People come by and pull out a length of watermelon, like a popsicle, and eat down to the rind which they promptly dispose of in the trashcan.  Kids and adults ate it like crazy.  I was glad I had the other half as back up in the fridge!

2. I was invited to a pedicure party.  Mercy was I overdue.  Totally fell in love with the OPI color Cajun Shrimp for summer.  It is almost red but not quite, it’s like an apple crashed into a melon, so it feels bright for summer and not deep for Christmas (it shows darker on my toes than in this picture).

3. Does it feel like summer is replete with see through t-shirts? Where did all the decent weight t-shirts go?  Any tips?  Well, in any event, years ago I found a couple of basic tanks at a boutique I fell in love with.  I wear them all the time.  They are old and shredded.  I went on a search and found them on eBay for 9.99 a piece with free shipping.

niki

They are by NikiBiki and they are crazy silky (I forgot because mine were so worn).  They come in a zillion colors, and I’m pairing them with all my summer tees.  They are so smooth that they even act as a cooling layer in this brutal heat. If you have any height whatsoever, order the “long” length which is item 4011 – they do not look as long as the model shows when you are a taller girl.

So weigh in?  Whatcha been up to this summer?  Fun vacation?  Fun summer tips?  By the way, what are you cooking for dinner?  I can barely bring myself to cook in this heat.

Cajun Shrimp has been my favorite nail color for the last 2 years! It’s such a great color!

Come on in. I have a reservation just for you. I know life is busy. I would love for us to step out for a relaxing lunch but schedules don't always allow. So let's pop open that salad or sandwich sitting in front of our computers, and we'll have lunch right here. A few minutes is all we need to connect to community.
