Everywhere you look, the fall (and summer) looks have delicate details. Bows, lace, belts, ruffles, you name it! If they can design a detail, then they’ve just gone and done it. On blouses and dresses and shoes alike.
You know, I love blouses. I LOVE blouses. And these details can make them special. But they can also make them fussy. Or overwhelming.
The key in styling delicate details is to select one piece to star in your ensemble. Competing bows and ruffles and flowers in various pieces can feel busy or fussy.
This oversized scalloped blouse only works with simple styling. The scallops are bigger than usual so Ann Taylor paired it with skinny white ankle pants, nude heeled sandals, gold hoops, and hair pulled back. Perfect. No need for necklaces, bold pants or fussy shoes.
This simple sheath is made all the more interesting by a bow neck detail and a bold color. Another example of perfect styling these details. Interesting animal print heels with no jewelry, scarves, or fussiness to be seen.
Are you going to kill me over this one? It’s the old school blouse lover in me, y’all. This oversized bow and flare cuffs, sigh, I love it so much. But obviously, you can do nothing else to this blouse because it’s sort of big. Pair with jeans or a pencil skirt and some classic high heels. Ah, lovely.
Let me start by saying I personally cannot wear this dress. I wish I could but I need to lose 20 pounds first. If I wore this look I’d look like an overstuffed pillowcase. This belt is awesome. It’s oversized underneath and skinny on top and perfect with this white summer sheath. But it deserves to be the focal piece. Except for maybe the aviators at the backyard barbeque.
What are your favorite clothing details? What pieces do you love right now?
(If there’s any typos or lapses in fashion judgment, you’ll have to excuse me because I’m binge watching Parenthood while my kids were gone. I never watched it live and now I’m on season 3. I can’t stop watching, so I am very tired. Happy Friday friends!)
Well, I love that scalloped blouse. Fashion is one of the reasons I actually miss when I work from home. There really is no point to getting all dressed up when I’m only going from the bedroom to the living room; so I’ve scaled back.
Nice to meet you – from GodSizedDreams.
Oh I love the orange dress and the white dress. Might buy! That blue thing- I wouldn’t let my granny wear that and she’s in her 80s!!! You have given me Awful 1985 nightmares.
I’m enjoying little details too. Tiny keyhole cutout at the back of a dress. Lace. Little flare things that flip up or down on the back of my heels. Little jeweled hair clip.
