Summer is a time I’m inevitably drawn to the new trends. They’re bright and happy and oh so appealing.
But the hottest trends off the runway can also be pricey.
So for today’s Fashion Friday we’ll break down some of the trends (new and continuing) and find them more affordably.
Let’s Buy This, Not That.
Trend No. 1 – Floral
It’s everywhere. What could be more logical for summer? And this is not your mother’s floral. The colors are bold and the flowers are big.
Take this gorgeous Lily Print silk blouse from Etro. Is $1,130 in your budget for a blouse? Um, me either.
You know where you can find the alternative? Loft has all sorts of oversized floral prints. You can step out in bold colors like this yellow printed blouse below, or you can nab a more neutral background like I did with this wild flowers tank. (And everything is 50% off today, so you can get two for the price of one!)
Trend No. 2 – Pink
I’ve written about it before, but there’s lots of pink out there right now. Solid pink. Color block pink. And pink floral. While I’m a huge fan of this Dolce & Gabbana silk pink print dress, I don’t have a cool $2500 laying around to fund its purchase.
So instead, go pink happy with this lovely ruffled floral number from Gap which you can grab for 30% off this weekend.
Trend No. 3 – Bow Detail
Last week I wrote about my love of all the bows appearing on shoes these days. The high end designers have grabbed that bow trend (as well as a few spotting that striped trend). So if you don’t want to spend a cool $900 on these Prada slingbacks, head over to last week’s post and grab a stripey bow pump at DSW for a fraction of that price!
Trend No. 4 – The Jumpsuit
Now you all KNOW my angst over the jumpsuit/romper trend. I’ve written about it before. But, even little ole me, will admit that some jumpsuits are downright cute. If you look like an adult, then maybe some are okay. This is not a blanket endorsement. (And, technically, it’s not even a trend since they’ve been appearing now for three years!)
For example, I think this Michael Kors number is so chic. That obi belt. Sigh. Yet I don’t have $2,150 to plunk down for a trend that most certainly will not last forever. (Or for a trend that WILL last forever.) But you can stay with the simple, monochromatic, elegant look for under a $100 at Nordstrom.
(And quite frankly, these things are EVERYWHERE, so you can do simple and lean for under a $100 at lots of places. Just remember, if you’re petite, best to stay away from them. It can look like you’re wearing a snuggy.)
So what trend do you love? Do you splurge on trendy items or do you find deals in a place we should know about? Sound off!
