This morning, I fried bacon. I made a cobb salad to serve my family who are all coming to the boys baseball game tonight and then coming home with us for dinner. The Vincent five plus my brother, mom, and aunt and uncle. So what to do on a school night after an evening game but cold salads. I made a yummy grilled corn dip too but that’s not why I’m writing.
Last night, I was up late cleaning and working and cooking. I didn’t get to bed until after midnight. Which meant the bacon didn’t get fried until this morning. I had already showered so my hair smelled like bacon. This is even more annoying because I don’t even eat bacon.
In an attempt to mitigate my odiferous noggin, I sprayed this supposed lice preventative repellent. You all know I’m still massively paranoid about lice. Which means we have tea tree oil shampoo, a back up bottle of lice killer, and some organic-daily use-lice prevention spray. I mainly use it for little bit because she has all the hair and the school exposure to lice outbreaks. Plus it’s a nice detangler.
But this morning, I used it to combat the bacon. Um, it is not like Febreeze. It doesn’t nullify the smell – it just commingles with it. Then I put a little perfume on. I’m basically a toxic mess today.
If you smell a weird cloud of bacon, eucalyptus and Sung in your local grocery store, I bet I’m an aisle over. You’re welcome.
Since I haven’t written in a while, I thought I’d give you a few updates.
Some of you lovely readers have asked about my health. It’s okay. Back in January I mentioned, among other things, a little brain cyst the neurologist found. Well, more of a big brain cyst sitting by my brain stem. The good news is that during my brain rescan about a month ago, the fella hadn’t grown. This means no brain surgery, for now.
While I’m delighted no one is cutting into my brain, it has served me well, I’m still having searing headaches. Probably two a week that are really bad, but I also wake up every morning with pain in the base of my skull/top of my neck. I’m processing how to handle this because I haven’t typically had headaches. The doctor gave me a daily pill to take at night to help, and I’m using essential oils on my neck, and I’m taking magnesium, etc.,etc., but so far no relief.
In addition, and for you lovely male readers, I won’t go into any detail, my OB/GYN informed me this spring I’m also perimenopausal. It’s the super fun stage before you formally go through menopause where you both feel menopausal AND get PMS and what follows. I’ll leave it there. But needless to say, there’s oodles of fun stuff that comes with that nonsense. Pray for my family.
I’ll write more about my no-discretionary-spending resolution from first quarter, but on the whole I did pretty good. I started being a little less stringent about the rules in March than the rest of the quarter, but overall I did seriously reduce my “fun” budget which needed to happen.
Unfortunately, we have failed miserably with our Christmas card resolution. It was a really important one to me but our life has just been so chaotic I haven’t been diligent like I should have. But I still have the cards and I still want to work on it.
We got a super helpful diagnosis for one of the kids. We’ve had some school struggles, good grades but more frustration than there should have been, and after testing discovered an auditory processing delay. I’m actually thrilled about the finding because there are ways to help navigate this and improve the processing now that we know. I feel like we’re not crazy and we have an action plan to tackle it.
So that’s what happening over here in the land of bacon and lice repellent.
Sorry I’ve been a little MIA.
It’s baseball season and the boys are on TWO teams and little bit is on a softball team that Bray coaches. We love it but between that and me getting ready to head to Asia for work, writing is one of the things that falls off my list. I’m working on it. While I smell like bacon.
Happy Hump Day friends.
