How Darkness Tries To Crowd The Light

August 27, 2014 by Gindi Leave a Comment

light

When we let people or food or drink or pride or ignorance or materialism grow in spaces that are meant for generosity and discipline and patience and wisdom and selflessness, then we stand ill-equipped to resist the lion stalking us constantly.  When we abandon self-control, also translated as a sober mind, we lose right along with it the strength to resist the enemy from a position entrenched in our faith.

What Are You Afraid Of?

July 21, 2014 by Gindi Leave a Comment

stormwords

What are you afraid of?

What is holding you back?

What turns your skin cold?

I have to tell you, I am scared to death.

I am scared of my dream failing.  I’m at least equally as scared that my dream might succeed.

I am scared of disobeying God.  I’m just about as scared of obedience given some of the things He is asking me to do.

I have generational fear.  It goes way back.  In fact, my fear is actually not as acute as the women who have gone before me.  Women of faith.  Yet women often paralyzed by fear.  But this is what I know in the deepest core of my being:

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them. This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment: In this world we are like Jesus.  There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.  I John 4:16-18

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.  Isaiah 41:10

Silly As The Secret to Success

June 23, 2014 by Gindi Leave a Comment

silly

I love the word silly.

It makes me laugh most of the time I hear it.

The only time I’m not a fan of the word is when it applies to me.

When I’m trying to be taken seriously, but I look (or feel like I look) silly.  Or when people think my dreams are silly.

Well, pssst, let me tell you a secret – embracing silly might just be the key that unlocks your success.

Won’t you join me over at God-sized Dreams today to read the rest of the story on how silly could really be your secret weapon?

Eyes Above the Waves – for God-sized Dreams

May 9, 2014 by Gindi Leave a Comment

{Fashion Fridays returns next Friday, I’m writing as part of the Oceans series over at God-sized Dreams today.}

We know this:  We are called out on the ocean.

We are in charge of what happens next.

We’ve read about Peter.  How in the moment when he responds to Jesus, and keeps his eyes fixed on Him in the middle of the crashing waves, he can step out of the boat in faith.  To do something BIG.  Unimaginable.  Something no one in the boat, or on the shore, had seen before.  Peter walked on the water, with waves crashing into his ankles, because he kept his eyes fixed on the One who made it all possible.

The second he looked down he began to sink.

I am not beyond sinking.  I am confident that I will experience sinking every now and again (hopefully less frequently as my faith grows) until my life here is finished.  But those times I don’t sink happen only when I call upon His name and keep my eyes above the waves and fixed on Him.

There has been crazy wave-walking this year.  God has revealed dreams well beyond anything I could ask or imagine…

When Your Dream Is Community

April 28, 2014 by Gindi 5 Comments

Ten of us.

IMG_2170[1]

Ten women filled my house this weekend.

My darling hubby took the kids to the farm and let our house become Ground Zero for the God-sized Dreamers first annual planning meeting.  From Friday at 11 am to Sunday at 4 pm my house was filled to overflowing.  Overflowing with laughter.  Overflowing with love.  Overflowing with community.

I had been so stressed about whether my house would be big enough or clean enough or organized enough, that I almost missed this.

The community.

That sense of being back in a college dorm only with women that God hand-selected to bring encouragement and joy and understanding and compassion.  As if each of us was there to fill a specific need in the others.

It’s a long story of how we all ended up holed up in my house even though these dreamers came from everywhere from Arizona to New Jersey, but God scripted it out well in advance of us ever comprehending how we would need one another.  How we would pray for one another.  How we would dig down to find each other’s crazy laugh – you know the one you used to have as a kid where you snorted and peed in your pants just a little.  How we would reveal past wounds from which we still bore the scars and would speak healing over each other’s pain.

They were God with skin on.

I watched a woman who had suffered at the hands of legalism and corruption of faith speak healing and freedom over the life of another.  I watched a woman who hasn’t borne children charge the gates of Heaven on behalf of one of my children with such power that I had no words.  I watched a woman whose marriage has been pulled back from the brink of utter destruction share hope to another struggling wife.

There were so many individual and community moments that I almost forgot the actual work that we did.  And even in that, the hours of work to further the vision that God has laid on our hearts for fellow dreamers, we worked to build a bigger and stronger community so that each woman we encountered who had a dream would be encouraged to keep dreaming.

This weekend came in a chaotic season for so many of us.  Which is probably why God brought us into a space with little schedule or make up or expectations.  So that the outcome was community.  Building our community to grow another community.

I am eternally grateful for these ten gifts.

I hold several God-sized dreams in my heart.  But without a doubt, one of my clearest dreams now is community.

Creating, having, and building community.

Welcome

Come on in. I have a reservation just for you. I know life is busy. I would love for us to step out for a relaxing lunch but schedules don't always allow. So let's pop open that salad or sandwich sitting in front of our computers, and we'll have lunch right here. A few minutes is all we need to connect to community.
