Twas the day before Christmas, when all through the house
Every creature was stirring, except maybe a spouse.
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that the triplets couldn’t reach them from there.
The children had no interest in going near any beds,
And too much sugar coursed through their veins to their heads.
And mamma looked haggard and wished for a nap,
But we knew we wouldn’t settle down til way past nightcaps.
I chased them on the lawn in hopes I wouldn’t get fatter,
But the day felt like something from Alice and the Mad Hatter.
Away to the window I ran in a flash,
And just caught the ball before there was a big crash.
The moon was nowhere near showing its glow,
And all I could think was we really should mow.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
But three smiling triplets who were full of such cheer…..
Their eyes-how they twinkled! their dimples how merry!
Their cheeks were like roses, their noses like a cherries!
Three perfect pink mouths were drawn up like a bow,
And the hair on their heads had grown much darker than snow.
The straws from their juice boxes were held tight in their teeth,
And the sticky lollypop smudges ringed their faces like wreaths.
They had beautiful faces and little round bellies,
They shook when they laughed, how joyful and merry!
I know that today all too often feels like just work,
And I don’t know about you but I can turn into a jerk.
But seeing those faces looking at me and glow,
Reminded me they are the real present wrapped up in a bow!
So I hugged them and kissed them and then let out a whistle,
And the real meaning of Christmas pierced my heart like a missile.
I remembered it’s about family and celebrating the Star that shone bright,
So Happy Christmas to all, and to all best wishes for tonight!
I’m still laughing! Happy Christmas to all with God’s richest blessings!
Peace and good to you.
Thanks Chelle – that’s our Christmas these days 🙂
