A Letter to My Dreaming Girlfriends

Holley Gerth has encouraged her God-sized dream team to write a letter to their God-sized dreaming sisters today, so sweet dreaming friend, this is for you:

Dear God-sized Dreamer,

I can just about see your sweet face.  I feel like if we sat down for one of these in-person girlfriend lunches, we’d talk clean through til dinnertime. 

I know your heart and your longing because I am a dreamer too.  I don’t know if you are in one of those amazing mountaintop places with your dream or if you’re sitting in the valley thinking it’s probably time to abandon that silly dream, but wherever you are right this second, can I tell you something? 

Keep. Dreaming.  Please do not give up.  Oh I know people laugh at it sometimes.  I’ve gotten those raised eyebrows that just scream, “You’re kidding, right?”  I know everyone doesn’t “get it.”  But do you know what?  They aren’t supposed to. 

This is a dream God gave YOU.  It is uniquely yours.  If everyone understood it, then it wouldn’t be your dream.  If everyone thought you were sane and believable and thought this idea was achievable, then God couldn’t show His power.  The MORE unbelievable and unrealistic and unachievable it seems to be, the bigger God is going to look when He makes it happen. 

Could you hang in there?  Could you just try to shrug off the incredulity of others and not let it settle in your soul?  I know that’s hard.  Especially when it comes from someone so close to you.  But God is giving you this dream for a reason.  And He’s going to have to do some God-sized work in other people’s souls too.

And if I could give you a big hug, I would.  I would tell you that’s it’s probably not going to happen overnight.  And if you are anything like Type A planner control-freak me, then that is driving you batty.  You just want to know then when and the how and all of the other answers.  But I would whisper to you, “Hang in there sister.  I know this not-knowing is driving us nuts, but do you know what, it’s kind of cool too.  Because He says He’s going to give us more than we can ask or imagine.  And it’s going to look and feel different, but if we would just sit close to Him, and listen to where He wants us to go, even when we think it’s crazy, it will pay off.  Big time.  He created you to dream.”
